Accessibility v4

Rare Disorders NZ is deeply frustrated that only minor amendments have been put forward by the Social Services and Community Committee to the Accessibility for New Zealanders Bill, ignoring the many concerns raised about the bill by the disabled community, including Rare Disorders NZ, during the select committee process.

There was wide consensus among submitters and presenters representing the disabled community that the bill needed to have standard-setting powers, powers of enforcement, investigative powers, and the ability to rectify breaches of accessibility. None of these calls have been implemented.

Rare Disorders NZ will continue, alongside others in the disabled community, to advocate for improved accessibility for disabled New Zealanders in all areas of life.
