Ko te ingoa taupua o tō mātou tari hou, ko te Toropaepae o te Kōtuku. Ko Toa Waaka te kaiwhakawātea. He nui te mihi ki a ia.

The RDNZ team has moved premises to the first floor of 94 Riddiford street. We were privileged to have Toa Waaka, mana whenua and of Ngāti Toa descent, open our new office space and gift us the interim name for the office: Te Toropaepae o te Kōtuku. It’s literal translation: “the perch of the Kōtuku (white heron)”.

The name references the whakataukī (Māori proverb): He kōtuku rerenga tahi. A white heron is seen but once. The sighting of a white heron is said to mark a special and rare occasion due to their seasonal migration from Serbia to Aotearoa. Certainly a big haerenga which reflects the experiences of whānau living with rare conditions.

The RDNZ team is delighted to have a new office space, and warmly welcomes anybody who would like to drop by for a visit.

Once again, a big mihi to Toa for his mahi and tautoko as our organisation works towards being a stronger Tiriti Partner!
