The Rare Beer Challenge is an annual fundraising event for Rare Disorders NZ held in March during Rare Disorders Month.

Craft breweries from around the motu compete for the title of Rare Beer Champion by creating their version of rare beer, using rare ingredients and unusual brewing techniques.

Hosted for the first five years by Fortune Favours in Wellington, freehouse brewpub 16 Tun in Auckland's Wynyard Quarter has taken over the reins from 2026, giving Aucklanders for the first time the opportunity to experience the full selection of entries.

Loyal Wellingtonian rare beer enthusiasts, you won't miss out - The Malthouse has been confirmed as the satellite venue in Wellington.
