It’s not rare to have a rare disorder. In Aotearoa, the rare community is over 300,000 strong. If you don’t live with a rare disorder yourself, you probably know someone who does.
March is Rare Disorders Month, a support period for the rare disorder community where Aotearoa is being called to Glow Up and Show Up for rare.
After two decades of advocacy, last year the rare community successfully Glowed Up and Showed Up – rallying the motu and influencing the Government to deliver NZ’s first Rare Disorders Strategy. Since we welcomed the Strategy, progress on its implementation has slowed. The rare community can’t wait for action any longer.
This Rare Disorders Month is a chance for [insert organisation name] to come together with other rare disorder communities. It’s time to celebrate our progress while calling for the Strategy to be implemented. Let’s light the way for rare.
We stand with other rare disorder communities and support groups in Aotearoa, and we’ll be getting involved in Rare Disorders Month by [insert activities].

For Rare Disorders Month, Aotearoa was called to Glow Up and Show Up for rare. Now is the time for bold action and swift implementation to ensure no one with a rare disorder is left behind. For 1 in 5 people with a rare disorder, it took over 10 years to get a diagnosis. This isn’t good enough.
